South Clermont Tree Service from SR-50 to Four Corners

South of SR-50, US-27 runs down the spine of the hills toward Four Corners, where Lake, Orange, Osceola and Polk counties meet near US-192. Along the way it passes Hartwood Marsh Road, the Kings Ridge and Legends golf communities, the entrance to Lake Louisa State Park about seven miles below SR-50, and the signal where CR-474 heads west into the Green Swamp across from Glenbrook Boulevard. East of the highway, Hancock Road is being pushed south past Hartwood Marsh, and the Wellness Way area is where much of the new building is going up.

Nearly all of this was citrus or pine scrub within living memory. The freezes of the 1980s and later greening wiped out most groves, and the land filled with rooftops in waves, from Greater Groves in the 1990s to communities still under construction. That history is why the tree work here looks so different from downtown: fewer giant old oaks, more pines, palms, scrub oaks and grove leftovers.

Clermont Pine Tree Removal on Sandhill Ground

The native cover along this stretch is sandhill: longleaf and sand pines, turkey oaks and other small scrub oaks on deep, white, fast-draining sand. When subdivisions were cut in, builders often left a row of pines along lot lines and retention ponds. Those trees grew up in a crowd, then suddenly stood alone with their roots trimmed by grading. Sand pines in particular are shallow-rooted and topple in wind, which is a big share of our pine tree removal calls here. The slopes add another factor, and our article on trees on Clermont hills and sandy soil goes into why.

Toward Lake Louisa and the Clermont Chain of Lakes, and west along CR-474 into the Green Swamp, the ground gets lower and wetter. There you see more water oaks, laurel oaks and cabbage palms. The park itself had to close parts of its beach and boardwalk for storm repairs after the 2024 season, which says a lot about how hard the wind hits this end of the county.

South Clermont Communities We Cover

  • Hartwood Marsh Rd and Hartwood Landing - newer lots on former scrub, with leftover pines that lost roots during site work.
  • Lake Louisa State Park area - lower, wetter acreage near the Chain of Lakes with water oaks and big cabbage palms.
  • Glenbrook and the CR-474 junction - the edge of the Green Swamp, where wet ground and tall slash pines go together.
  • Greater Groves (34714) - established 1990s neighborhood near US-192 with mature oaks now crowding roofs.
  • Wellness Way corridor - active new construction and lot clearing on former grove and pasture land.

Land Clearing and Common Jobs Along US-27

A good part of our work on this corridor is land clearing for a pool, a shed pad, a fence line or an infill lot. Light clearing on scrub ground typically runs $1,800 to $6,500 or more per acre, and dense, overgrown parcels cost more. Homeowners who bought onto old grove land also call us to pull the dead trees that keep turning up at the back of the lot; our citrus tree removal usually runs $150 to $500 a tree, with whole grove blocks quoted by the acre. If you are deciding what to do with them, read what to do with dead citrus trees.

The HOA neighborhoods keep us busy with palm tree trimming, mostly queen palms and some Washingtonias. Queen palms grow fast here and drop heavy seed stalks, and we usually price them between $85 and $275 a palm depending on height. After a removal, stump grinding typically runs $95 to $450 per stump, and many HOAs want the stump gone before you replant.

Tree Rules in South Clermont: City or County

This corridor is a patchwork. Kings Ridge, Legends and much of Hartwood Marsh are inside the City of Clermont, while some parcels along US-27, CR-474 and toward Four Corners are unincorporated Lake County, and part of ZIP 34714 even reaches into Polk County. The rules change with the line. Lake County has published an exemption form for occupied single-family lots of two acres or less, with limits, while the City of Clermont applies its own code. We confirm which jurisdiction your parcel falls in, and what it requires, on every estimate. Under Florida Statute 163.045, a residential tree that an ISA certified arborist or Florida licensed landscape architect documents as a danger can be removed without a local permit or replanting.

HOA rules are a separate layer. Most gated communities along US-27 want architectural approval before a tree comes down or a stump gets ground, and some require a replacement tree from an approved list. We can write up the job in a format your board can review.

Power Lines and Storm Work South of SR-50

Both Duke Energy and SECO Energy serve parts of South Lake County, and in this growth area the line between them can fall street by street, so we check your bill before any work near the lines. Many newer subdivisions have underground service, which helps, but the feeders along US-27 and Hartwood Marsh are still overhead. When a storm drops a pine across a driveway, our emergency tree removal line is open all night, and we photograph everything for your insurance first.

South Clermont Tree Removal Near Neighboring Areas

Head north on US-27 and you are in our downtown Clermont and Lake Minneola service area. East of Four Corners and the Turnpike, we also work throughout Horizon West. To the west, SR-50 and the back roads lead to Groveland, where pine work is just as common.

Questions

South Clermont Tree Service Questions

Gated communities like Kings Ridge generally require architectural or landscape approval before a tree comes down, and sometimes before a stump is ground or a palm is removed. Rules vary by neighborhood and change, so check with your association first. We can give you a written scope with the species, size, location and reason for removal, which is usually what the board needs. Once you have approval, we schedule around gate access and community rules.

It depends on your exact parcel. Much of the US-27 corridor near Hartwood Marsh is inside the City of Clermont, but some lots along US-27, CR-474 and toward Four Corners are unincorporated Lake County. Part of ZIP 34714 even crosses into Polk County. We look up the parcel on every estimate and confirm what the right jurisdiction requires, so you are not guessing based on your mailing address.

Sand pines are naturally shallow-rooted, and in these subdivisions many were left standing at the edge of a graded lot. Site work cut part of their roots, and they lost the shelter of the trees around them at the same moment. Put that together with loose, dry sand and a tall, top-heavy crown, and they go over in storms that barely bother an oak. If you have one leaning toward a house, it is worth a look before hurricane season.

Light clearing on scrub or old grove ground typically runs $1,800 to $6,500 or more per acre, depending on how many trees there are, how big the pines are, and whether stumps need to be ground or pulled. Dense, overgrown land costs more. We walk the parcel, mark what stays and what goes, and give you a flat written price. Check with the city or county about any clearing permit tied to construction before we start.

Yes. Many older South Clermont lots still hold a few trees from the groves that were here before the houses. Most are dead or close to it from freezes or greening, and they attract pests and dead wood. A single small citrus tree usually runs $150 to $500 to remove, and we can grind the stump the same visit. If you want to keep a healthy one, we can prune it instead.

Queen palms here usually need trimming once or twice a year. They grow fast, drop heavy seed stalks and hold dead fronds that hang down against pool cages and roofs. Many HOAs also set appearance standards. We remove dead and broken fronds and seed stalks, but we do not over-strip the green ones, because that weakens the palm. Typical pricing runs $85 to $275 per palm depending on height and access.

Yes. That end of the corridor sits lower and closer to the Chain of Lakes and the Green Swamp, so you find more water oaks, laurel oaks, slash pines and big cabbage palms on damp ground. Wet soil loosens roots in long rainy spells, and large oaks near the water can uproot rather than break. We bring mats for soft ground and plan our approach so we do not leave ruts across the yard.

South Clermont is close to our base, so we can usually reach it the same day for trees on houses, cars or blocking the only way out. Our emergency line runs 24/7, and after-hours work carries a 25 to 50 percent premium that we tell you about before starting. We photograph the damage for insurance, make the structure safe first, then schedule full cleanup and haul-off.
